Raw dried fruit - superfoods with a long tradition
The numerous benefits of dried fruit were already known in the Middle East over 5000 years ago. At that time, date palms were cultivated and their fruits were dried in the heat of the sun. The dehydration served as preservation and made it possible for valuable food sources to be utilised at a later date. Even back then, dried fruit was considered a healthy food that was said to be able to help combat fatigue and provide quick energy. Today, however, dried fruit is usually produced in large quantities and not much is left of the gentle drying process that was once used. We at Keimling have made it our mission to offer raw food dried fruits that are not only gently dried, but are also ideally suited for raw food nutrition thanks to their high organic quality.
Dried fruit today
Drying foods such as fruit is one of the oldest ways of preserving food in a gentle and natural way. We can still utilise this millennia-old process today, especially for a balanced raw food diet. However, in order to benefit as much as possible from this superfood, it is important to pay attention to a few points and, if possible, only buy organic dried fruit, as we offer in our Keimling health food shop. In our range you will only find products that meet our high quality standards. All organic dried fruit is vegan and has also been produced without irradiation or the use of genetic engineering. For a raw food diet, it is also important that the temperatures during the drying process always remain below 45 degrees. With all dried fruit in the Keimling Naturkost range, you can of course rely on this! There is something for every taste in our large selection of raw dried fruit.
Buy organic dried fruit or make it yourself
Alongside nuts, dried fruit is one of the most important components of a balanced raw food diet, and is just as convincing due to its high fibre content as it is due to its tasty flesh. By removing the water, the fruit becomes particularly flavourful and rich in fibre.
Making your own raw dried fruit the right way
With the right dehydrator, it is very easy to make your own dried fruit according to your own needs and wishes. Step by step to your own dried fruit
1. select your favourite fruit
2. clean it thoroughly and carefully
3. remove the seeds depending on the fruit and your preference
4. cut the fruit into slices or pieces
5. Place the pulp in the dehydrator and start the drying process
Tip: The thinner the fruit is cut, the faster it dries.
FAQ: Frequently asked questions
Do dried fruits have a positive effect on digestion?
Dried fruit is said to have a positive and accelerating effect on digestion. This is partly due to the high water-insoluble fibre content, which can have a stimulating effect on bowel movements.
Do dried fruits have more calories than fresh fruit?
The removal of water causes the flesh of the fruit to lose weight and therefore, relatively speaking, the calorie density also increases. During this process, however, the vitamins and nutrients remain largely intact, which is what makes dried fruit so valuable, especially in raw food diets, when dried gently at below 45 degrees.
What is the shelf life of dried fruit?
Drying fruit is one of the oldest ways of preserving food, and not without reason. If stored correctly, dried fruit can be kept for several years. However, as there is always residual moisture in the dried fruit, microorganisms and mould can form. Dried fruit should therefore always be checked before consumption.
