Together with spinach and barley grass powder, the result is a delicious green smoothie that brings fun into your glass! This green smoothie is a wonderful change from breakfast muesli, is gently filling and does not weigh you down. Then simply replace the water in this recipe with freshly squeezed fruit juice! This will make the smoothie even richer and add new flavours. Just try out what you fancy! |
A little botany: barley grass powder Did you know that barley grass powder is one of the most researched foods in the world? We have the doctor and phamacologist Dr Yoshihide Hagiwara to thank for this. He carried out numerous studies on this green wonder of nature and quickly realised that it is one of our most valuable foods. The green grass contains an incredible number of ingredients, including the green plant pigment chlorophyll, of course, but also vitamins A, B, C and more. In addition to important minerals and enzymes, barley grass also provides valuable vegetable protein. This makes it an incredible food that we can use in powdered form in the modern kitchen. As a very healthy ingredient for smoothies, drinks and dips, it can be used in a variety of ways. When buying it, always make sure it comes from organic farming and, not forgetting, raw food quality. This is the only way to ensure that as many valuable ingredients as possible are preserved and end up in your green smoothie glass. Have a good time! |

Smoothie recipe no. 2 with chard and ginger
If you think green smoothies are only delicious in spring or summer, you should definitely try this recipe for the cold season. Because the topic of green smoothies is so wide-ranging that we can try out numerous wonderful recipes for every season. In this recipe, the green smoothie becomes an excellent winter drink that warms the body from the inside and provides it with important vital nutrients thanks to the chard and ginger. Perfect when it's wet, cold and uncomfortable outside... Preparation: Peel both oranges and the banana and place them in your Vitamix blender jug. Now add a piece of ginger. You don't need to peel the ginger. If it is fresh and washed, you can blend it directly with the peel. Because as you know, many important nutrients are hidden under the skin. Now wash the chard thoroughly under cold water. Remove the green leaves from the stalk. This is very easy: Tear the leaf slightly along the thick end of the stalk. Hold the stalk with one hand and pull off the green leaves with the other. Place the leaves in the blender jug. Sweeten to taste, top up with water and start blending! Within 30 to 45 seconds, the ingredients are transformed into a delicious green winter smoothie. If the ingredients get a little out of place, simply use your Vitamix tamper to help you. Tip: Adapt this recipe to your heart's content - or to what your fridge has to offer: Replace the chard with spinach leaves, for example, or even kale. The oranges can also be swapped for mandarins or pomelos. |
A little botany: Swiss chard, the alternative to spinach Unfortunately, chard is still a rare guest in many kitchens. Yet it not only tastes great and can be used in a variety of ways - it also brings valuable ingredients to our plates - or to green smoothies. Although it looks and tastes similar, chard is actually not related to spinach, but is a cultivated form of wild beetroot. What makes chard so special are its stems: There is chard with light green, green, bright yellow and even bright red stems. This leafy vegetable therefore brings real colour into the kitchen! And this vegetable plant also boasts a colourful variety of vital substances: Swiss chard provides vitamins K, A and E, as well as various minerals. Like spinach, chard also contains oxalic acid and should therefore not be eaten in large quantities. |

Smoothie recipe no. 3 Matcha maca smoothie
Realists would say this green smoothie is an energy booster, connoisseurs would say it's the matcha latte 2.0: your raw almond puree makes this smoothie particularly soft and creamy, while the maca powder adds its malty flavour as the icing on the cake. A real treat for the senses and, thanks to the valuable matcha tea, also an excellent green smoothie with important chlorophyll. Preparation: Preparation is very simple: put all the ingredients in your Vitamix blender jug and start blending. With the smoothie programme of the Vitamix Pro 500, it even goes by itself and is ready in 45 seconds - the velvety, delicious green smoothie, an ideal starter for the working day! If you replace some of the water with ice cubes, the green smoothie becomes even creamier and is a wonderful energising refreshment on hot days. Tip: Instead of the almond puree in this green smoothie, why not try other nut purees? Feel free to experiment - there are numerous variations that are worth discovering. Apricot kernel puree, for example, gives this recipe a hint of marzipan flavour. Hazelnut butter provides a nutty taste sensation and black sesame butter turns this green smoothie into a colourful experience. |
A little botany: matcha tea Matcha is on everyone's lips - literally! Hardly any other superfood is more popular than the green power powder. The tea comes from Japan, where the word "matcha" translates as "powdered tea". The special thing about matcha tea is certainly its incredibly intense green colour. The green tea plants for matcha are shaded 4 weeks before harvesting. This deprives them of the sun's rays, giving them an intense dark green leaf colour and a more aromatic, stronger flavour. Chlorophyll production is increased, making this tea even more valuable for green smoothies. Once the tea leaves have been harvested, they are steamed to stop fermentation. They are then gently dried and finally the leaves are finely ground in stone mills. The former meditation drink of Buddhist monks, which was developed by them 800 years ago, is particularly popular today. The reason for this is the numerous positive properties that this green tea powder is said to have. In addition to the high chlorophyll content, matcha also contains essential amino acids. There are now numerous types of matcha with different qualities. Incidentally, the tea is traditionally prepared in a tea bowl, first whisked with a little 80-degree water using a bamboo whisk and then stirred with the remaining water. This special broom, the so-called cha-sen, is a speciality in itself and consists of 100 bamboo bristles, which are carefully processed by hand. To ensure that the broom lasts a long time, a special porcelain holder has been developed to protect the bristles. This means that the broom can always dry out properly. |

Smoothie recipe no. 4 "Mango-Moringa"
Hmmm... fresh mango, soft banana and even more good ingredients, each of which is a very special work of Mother Nature. All together they make a wonderfully flavoured super green smoothie. Super, because it's full of superfoods: everyone is talking about moringa. The tree is said to have numerous incredible effects on the human body. Whether they are true, we don't know. In any case, moringa provides a nutrient spectrum that is unrivalled. Added to this is the blue-green algae spirulina with an extra portion of chlorophyll. And as a particularly tasty finishing touch, this green smoothie is topped off with the smooth creaminess of almond puree, which has an alkaline-balancing effect. A vital temptation, straight from your blender... Preparation: Firstly, peel the mango and remove the stone. Place the fruit together with the peeled banana in the blender jug of your Vitamix. Now add the remaining ingredients together with the water on top. Then blend everything in the turbo programme until you have a smooth green smoothie. Served with ice cubes, it provides refreshment and numerous nutrients as an ideal start to the day and for in-between meals. Tip: As always, you can experiment with the ingredients. For example, moringa powder can be substituted for spelt or barley grass powder. You can also swap spirulina for other algae, such as AFA or chlorella. And instead of mango, pineapple also tastes fantastic in this green smoothie! Why not use frozen fruit instead of ice cubes? This way you have the coolness effect directly in the blender and can, for example even very ripe bananas can still be ideally utilised. |
A little botany: Moringa Hardly any other plant is currently more in demand and literally on everyone's lips: Moringa oleifera is considered THE superfood par excellence! The so-called miracle tree offers a unique spectrum of nutrients that can hardly be found in any other plant. Every part of this tree can be used - from the leaves and flowers to the seeds, bark and roots. The seeds, for example, are often used as water purifiers in their native Africa. They filter bacteria and impurities and thus produce drinking water in a completely natural way. We mainly use the leaves of this fantastic super tree. They contain, for example 11 essential amino acids, 4 times more vitamin A than carrots, 7 times more vitamin C than oranges, four times more calcium than milk, as much protein as eggs, twice as much protein as soya and three times the potassium content of bananas. The flavour is similar to that of horseradish, while the fruit of the moringa tree is said to taste like asparagus. All in all, this plant is a very special wonder of nature and an immense enrichment for healthy cooking. That's why it also makes an excellent powder in a green superfood smoothie. |

Smoothie recipe no. 5 "Black makes sexy"
This is a true green smoothie, but with so many black ingredients, we can't help but say: Sexy, this thing! Because as we all know - at least since the little black dress - black makes sexy! Will this green smoothie actually do the trick? Find out for yourself! It's definitely sexy in the mouth and tastes great! With black kale and black sesame puree, it's not a green smoothie like others, but a drink for fans of vitality food who like to experiment! Give it a try... Preparation: Firstly, wash the black cabbage and remove the leaf stalks. To do this, simply tear the leaves a little at the stem, hold them firmly and pull them off the stem. With a little practice, you can do this in no time at all! Simply cut the pear into large pieces and add to the Vitamix. Add the remaining ingredients and finally add the black cabbage leaves on top. Now blend the whole thing thoroughly. If the green smoothie is too thin, simply add a pear. If it is too thick, add a little more water. Tip: Don't have any green sultanas in the house? Alternatively, simply sweeten the green smoothie with 3 pitted Deglet Nour Supreme dates. Dried figs, such as light-coloured mountain figs, are also delicious. Simply add 2 pieces and blend well. You don't need to soak the dried fruit beforehand if you have a really powerful blender like the Vitamix. The Vitamix even processes these firm fruits into a fibre-free, soft drink in your green smoothie. |
A little botany: black sesame seeds Open up sesame seeds - and show us your treasures! Sounds like a fairy tale? Not at all! Just like its namesake in the fairy tale, the black sesame seeds in this recipe hide wonderful treasures for us, treasures of nature. For centuries, black sesame seeds have been valued in traditional Chinese medicine for their vital substances. For example, it contains 6 times more calcium than cow's milk - and let's face it, we can't do without cow's milk to keep our calcium levels up. Vegans will probably clap their hands in delight at this news! But black sesame seeds provide much more, such as iron and phosphorus, vegetable protein (another plus point for vegan cuisine) and, last but not least, a magnificent 50% of valuable vegetable oils with a high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids. Black sesame seeds are said to have numerous beneficial effects - perhaps only legendary, perhaps real. For our part, we value it for its stunning flavour - nutty with a slightly bitter note. It is a heavenly ingredient in raw food cuisine, especially as black sesame puree, and is also sure to enrich the diet of many other nutrition-conscious people. |

Smoothie recipe no. 6 with CamuCamu and kale
Hmm... autumn gives us this wonderful vegetable, which we can even harvest well into winter: Kale! After kale was banned from many menus for a long time and was only used as a savoury option when completely overcooked, the green super vegetable is now making a comeback. Resourceful raw foodists have long since discovered the many benefits of kale and redefined it as an important ingredient in healthy cuisine. The once disdainful cooked vegetable is now being turned into a crunchy snack from the dehydrator or, as in our recipe, a warming green smoothie... Preparation: First peel the oranges and place them in your Vitamix container. The oranges can remain whole - the Vitamix can do this effortlessly. Now remove the thick leaf stalks from the kale and place the leaves in the blender jug with the remaining ingredients. If you have a Vitamix Pro 500, simply set the programme for smoothies. Alternatively, start the blending process at low speed and keep increasing the speed until you reach the turbo setting. After approx. 30 - 45 seconds, your green smoothie is ready to enjoy! Tip: Instead of kale, you can also use other green leafy vegetables such as spinach, chard or postelein for this recipe. Be creative and try adding herbs to the ingredients used above. A hint of fresh peppermint, for example, gives the smoothie a real kick of freshness and provides additional important vital substances. |
A little botany: CamuCamu CamuCamu is a shrub that is native to the Amazon region and grows mainly in Peru. The shrub can reach a height of up to six metres and bears white flowers in summer. The fruits of the shrub are reddish in colour and 3 cm in size. They are the speciality of this plant, as the fruits are bursting with vitamin C. In relation to their body weight, they contain between two and three per cent vitamin C, which is 40 times more of this vitamin than oranges, for example. Vitamin C is known to be important for the absorption of iron. And CamuCamu also provides this. For this reason, this fruit is now offered in powder form as a dietary supplement. In its native regions, however, CamuCamu is usually eaten fresh as a fruit or as a juice. It is considered an aphrodisiac there. CamuCamu tastes sour and tingles on the tongue when eaten fresh. As a powder, its flavour is reminiscent of ginger. Due to its high vitamin C content, it is an excellent addition to our green smoothies and makes them a tasty little vitamin bomb, especially in winter. |
<img width="150" title="Smoothie recipe no. 7" src="/media/90/c8/32/1605644154/exotic-popeye-smoothie.jpg" alt="Smoothie recipe no. 7"> For 2-3 persons Ingredients: 1 handful of spinach |
Smoothie recipe no. 7 Popeye Exotic
Attention Popeye fans: With this velvety smooth green smoothie that tastes like the South Seas and is packed full of natural feel-good boosters, Popeye would leave his spinach cans behind! Olivia would be amazed if she were served this delicious vitality drink by her favourite. Because: spinach does the trick! With its extremely high proportion of wonderful chlorophyll - the green plant pigment - this smoothie really is green! It doesn't just look delicious, it tastes it too! And especially in the cold season - fortunately pineapple is available all year round - it provides us with vitamin C and a hint of summer sunshine. And all perfectly prepared for us in a glass. So grab the blender and get mixing... Preparation: Use a really sharp knife to remove the skin from the pineapple. Do you have a Vitamix blender? Then save yourself the effort! Simply throw the pineapple, cut into pieces, directly into the blender jug! Your Vitamix will make short work of everything. Do the test! Besides, as we all know, most of the good stuff is just under the peel anyway. You can peel your orange or - for fans of tart flavours - put it straight into the blender jug with the peel. (This is not for wimps!) Now add the washed spinach on top, add purified water to taste and blend vigorously until you have a smooth green smoothie. Done. Now pour it into a glass and enjoy. Add ice cubes to make a really tasty refreshing drink! Tip: We recommend using mango instead of pineapple. It's a great alternative and not only has a lot of flavour, but also, like pineapple, a lot of natural vital substances. And for an extra kick, add a few squeezes of lemon to the green smoothie. This makes it a real hit and revitalises tired spirits. It also tastes amazing! |
A little botany: Spinach Popeye just knew it: this super green plant gives us a natural vitality boost! Let's leave out the fairy tale of the extra high iron content - although iron is still present in this impressive plant. Spinach has so much more to offer. Take the high chlorophyll content. Do you know why we are so fond of green smoothies? Because of the high chlorophyll content! This is the green blood of plants and only differs from human haemoglobin in one small detail: the central ion in the nucleus. Because what iron is to human blood, magnesium is to plant blood. Without chlorophyll, without photosynthesis, life is not possible. This is because, like a small plant factory, it produces the air we breathe every day: oxygen. And all this little marvel is hidden in an everyday plant such as spinach. However, when eating spinach, we should bear in mind that, in addition to its many wonderful ingredients, it also contains oxalic acid, which is toxic to the human body in excessive quantities. So, as always, enjoy everything in moderation rather than in bulk! |

Smoothie recipe no. 8 "Apple-cinnamon" with maca
When we think of apples and cinnamon, many of us probably think of the cold season, cosying up in front of the fire and feeling cosy. Yet these ingredients, combined with maca and lamb's lettuce, make a real super drink as a green smoothie - straight from your Vitamix! Apples are not only tasty and juicy, they are also full of vitamins and minerals. It's not for nothing that people say "an apple a day keeps the doctor away". Add a touch of cinnamon and the already perfect apple gets the icing on the cake. Because apples and cinnamon simply belong together. An ideal basis for a green smoothie, in our opinion. That's why we add a portion of greens and a superfood - and the ideal green smoothie is ready to sweeten our breakfast for a vital start to the day. Preparation: Cut the apples into quarters and remove any brown bits. You can put the apples into the Vitamix without the stalk but with the core - the blender will puree everything to a fine fibre. This way you also benefit from the valuable phytochemicals in the apple cores. Now wash the lamb's lettuce and add it to the apples. Now add the remaining ingredients and top up with water. Now start your Vitamix on a low setting and slowly increase the speed up to turbo. Blend everything thoroughly for around 30 seconds. If necessary, add a little more water or flavour the green smoothie with the spices. |
A little botany: maca superfood Do you already know this ingredient? Maca is a Peruvian type of cress. The plant has been cultivated in the Andes in Peru for 2000 years and is used there as a food and medicinal plant. The green part is used raw and cooked in various dishes and has a pungent flavour. However, the root tuber is also used, which is dried and ground into a fine brown powder. Among other things, the root contains essential amino acids, fatty acids, carbohydrates, minerals such as iodine and iron and much more. Maca is now one of the superfoods due to its ingredients and because it is said to have various positive effects. In Peru, maca is said to be used to increase libido and it is also said to increase fertility. Gustavo Gonzales, a scientist from Peru, has carried out studies on this topic and found astonishing results. Maca is also said to increase physical performance, provide energy and have a positive effect on mental resilience. Is all this true? Test it for yourself! In any case, we think that maca is an excellent ingredient for green smoothies. Their slightly malty flavour finely rounds off the aroma in our recipe. |

Smoothie recipe no. 9 with avocado and spinach
Do you know why the smoothie is called a smoothie? The word smoothie comes from the English smooth, which means gentle, soft, smooth and supple. And that's exactly what smoothies should be: soft on the tongue and simply delicious. This often seems like a bit of a challenge, especially with green smoothies. But there is only one important rule here: combine around 40 % plant greens with around 60 % fruit. The plant green in the green smoothie can come from a wide variety of green leaves, herbs and grasses - the main thing is that it contains a good portion of chlorophyll. These include, for example, spinach as a classic, but also chard, kale, lamb's lettuce and purslane through to peppermint and even young spruce needles. You can mix a wide variety of ingredients together - be bold. When delicious fruits such as pineapple, mango, bananas, oranges, wild berries or melons are added as a balancing component, the result is a wonderfully flavoursome, sweet and fruity super drink full of vital substances with high bioavailability. Another important factor for the smooth character of your green smoothie: use a blender with plenty of power. This is the only way to ensure that all the fibres are really finely pureed and combine perfectly to create a green, nourishing treat for your taste buds! Try it out... Preparation: Firstly, clean the spinach under running water, drain it and put it to one side. Now peel the oranges and place them in the blender jug of your powerful blender, such as the Vitamix. Now add the dried pineapple sugar loaf and the flesh of half the avocado. Now add the spinach and top up with water. Now increase the speed of your blender from low to slow turbo and blend everything into a really fine, smooth green smoothie in just over half a minute. Pour into glasses and enjoy. In winter, instead of spinach, we recommend kale and a small piece of ginger as a warming ingredient. In summer, you can make a refreshing version of the green smoothie with ice cubes and a squeeze of lemon. Tip: If you prefer a more tart flavour, add the orange and its peel to the blender jug. This gives the smoothie a slightly bitter flavour. |
A little botany: avocado The avocado is a fruit of a laurel plant originally from southern Mexico. In Germany, the actual berry was often referred to as butter fruit because of its soft flesh or alligator fruit because of its external appearance. Even the ancient Aztecs used its oil. The avocado is particularly interesting for nutrition, especially for raw foodists and vegans, due to its high fat content of 25% on average. This fruit also provides minerals and vitamins as well as all essential amino acids. |
![]() Ingredients: 1 heaped teaspoon Keimling Organic spelt grass powder |
Smoothie recipe no. 10 Mango spelt grass
A velvety taste experience with an exotic flavour... That's the best way to describe this smoothie. Plus a mix of natural minerals with high bioavailability and an extra hint of chlorophyll from green spirulina algae. A green smoothie can be far more varied than you think. The magic word is: imagination... Spelt grass plays the leading role in this smoothie. The protagonist shines with numerous stunning ingredients that are second to none. Alongside wheat grass and barley grass, spelt grass is also a valuable green food that not only provides a particularly high level of chlorophyll, but also minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron and much more. Preparation: First place the peeled bananas in the blender jug of your Vitamix. Now cut the mango into 2 halves along the stone. There are two ways to remove the peel from the flesh: The classic way is to cut the flesh into diamonds with a knife, stopping just before the skin. Then turn the mango half inside out and you can easily cut off the individual fruit cubes. The second way is to peel the mango with a small, sharp knife. Do this carefully so that you don't injure yourself. Now put the flesh of the half mango into the blender jug and add the remaining ingredients. Blend everything thoroughly for at least 30 seconds. With the Vitamix Pro 500, you can simply use the smoothie programme for this. If the green smoothie is too thin or too thick, simply vary the ingredients and add a little more water if necessary. Tip: For a fresh kick in summer, replace some of the water with ice cubes. Alternatively, you can also freeze the bananas peeled and cut into pieces and put them in the blender. This gives the same ice cube effect and makes the green smoothie even tastier! |
A little botany: Keimling Organic spirulina Naturland certified Spirulina is a type of bacteria and is often referred to as blue-green algae. Spirulina from the Keimling Naturkost range is the species Spirulina Platensis. Due to its high chlorophyll content, spirulina is highly valued and used as a dietary supplement. Spirulina is also particularly suitable as an ingredient in vegan, vegetarian and raw food diets, for example in green smoothies, as it provides valuable real vitamin B12. It also contains organically bound iron, which has a high bioavailability. Spirulina has been part of the human diet for several thousand years and was already integrated into the diet of the Aztecs and the Kanembus from Africa. In our smoothie, this ingredient is an excellent addition and also helps to intensify the green colour of your smoothie. |
