Our Medjool organic dates ripen in the Mediterranean region on palm trees towering up to 30 metres high. There they soak up the full power of the sun for months and develop their incomparable flavour. After harvesting, the dates are dried in the sun (up to 50°C possible) and are thus preserved without sulphurisation. Enjoyed pure, Medjool organic dates provide quick energy for work or sport. They are at least as good in fruity smoothies, vegan cakes and desserts. Incidentally, the natural sugar in the dates crystallises on the surface during drying - a sure sign that you are enjoying a natural product!

What characterises Medjool Giant Supreme dates?

Obviously, the first thing that characterises this date variety is the size of the dates. However, in addition to its size, the Medjool variety also has a lot to offer in terms of flavour: A juicy, soft and pleasantly sweet flesh. The skin of the dates is soft and less firm than that of other varieties.

What is the best way to store dates?

To allow the dates to develop their full flavour, they should already be at room temperature when they are eaten or used in your recipes. If you are storing larger quantities of dates, you should keep them as cool as possible at around 10 °C. This also preserves the visual quality of the fruit and delays post-sugaring, i.e. the further conversion of the fruit sugar into sugar.

My dates have got a white coating. Are they spoilt?

After some time in storage, dried fruit such as dates will develop a white, sometimes grainy coating, even if the best-before date is still a long way off. A small amount of water is still present despite the drying of the fruit. As a result of this residual moisture, sugar leaks to the surface during further drying and forms a fine to granular crystal structure. No need to worry: this is a completely natural process, which also indicates the naturalness of the dates. It is a natural ripening process that can occur at some point, especially with particularly fresh and soft dates.

Are the dates sweetened or sulphurised?

To distort and increase the natural sweetness of dates with refined sugar would truly be an outrage against this delicious variety. Our dates are free from additives such as sulphur and preservatives and - as is unfortunately often the case - have not been bathed in glucose.

Why are dates also called "bread of the desert"?

The term "bread of the desert" certainly doesn't have much in common with baked goods, but it shows how much the indigenous peoples of the desert valued dates: even in the most unreal regions of the date's arid homeland, they ensured the survival of the inhabitants. With their high carbohydrate content of between 60 and 70 per cent, dates are real powerhouses and also very tasty.
