Date palms have been known since the Mesopotamian era. In the archaeological site of Masada Fortress in Israel, date pits dating back 2000 years have even been unearthed. Researchers managed to germinate one of these date pits a few years ago. Date palms thrive in very hot desert regions and produce precious fruit - dates- after 5-6 years. Because the palms only produce fruit every 2 years and stop doing so after 100 years, date cultivation must be carefully planned.

Dates are a welcome source of energy and can be kept for a long time as dried fruit due to their high carbohydrate content of 60-70%. For centuries, for example, this has made them a tried and tested food source for desert nomads, who were often able to survive thanks to just one date a day. They contain more fibre than wholemeal bread, more potassium than bananas and gently aid digestion.

They are organically grown in Tunisia without the addition of chemicals, carefully harvested and gently dried under raw food conditions. Neither glucose nor other preservatives are used in any of our dates. This gives you the wonderful, pure date flavour in the best natural quality. The date is an excellent snack for between meals and when travelling, but also a wonderful ingredient for many delicious raw food dishes. Deglet Nour Supreme dates are often used as a sweetener in smoothies and puddings, but also in raw food cakes. Did you know that we also use Deglet Nour Supreme dates in our popular raw food confectionery? For good reason, because our dates have a fine, sweet honey flavour, are full-bodied in taste and have a slight hint of marzipan.

Is it safe to store large quantities of dates?

Dates are a popular fruit, especially in raw food - also for sweetening many delicious dishes - and so you usually have a smaller or larger supply of them. For a longer shelf life, it is best to store the dates in a cool, dry place. With their high carbohydrate content, dates have a long natural shelf life - however, over time a fine to grainy white coating forms on the skin of the dates. However, this is nothing to worry about: The coating is caused by the subsequent natural saccharification of the fruit and is a sign of a natural product.

How many types of dates are there?

Today there are more than 1500 date varieties, which differ in colour, shape and flavour. What is particularly surprising about the different date varieties is that they differ greatly in their flavour nuances: Honey, marzipan, caramel, mocha and even chocolate are terms used to describe their flavour. From the many well-known varieties, we have put together a selection of the best varieties - including our Zweigdattel Deglet Nour Supreme - and are delighted to share this variety of flavours with you.

Are the dates additionally treated?

Absolutely not. Deglet Nour Supreme dates are grown in Tunisia according to organic principles without the addition of chemicals such as artificial fertilisers or pesticides. Neither glucose nor preservatives are used for preservation. In order to naturally "preserve" the ingredients and flavour, the dates are harvested and dried as gently as possible. These exceptional dates are dried in raw food quality at under 40 °C and are a purely natural product. We think so: You can taste it too!
