Dried figs - A piece of sunshine from Spain

Our golden figs come from controlled organic cultivation in Spain and belong to the Calabacitas variety. They are characterised by their golden brown colour, tender skin and sweet, honey-like flavour. They soak up plenty of sun in the Mediterranean climate and develop their special flavour. Naturally ripened and sun-dried, they are a natural treat in a class of their own. Ideal for anyone who values authentic, untreated dried fruit.

Raw figs - that's what matters

We attach particular importance to gentle processing without heat, so that valuable ingredients and enzymes are protected. At the same time, our Spanish golden figs are completely natural, as synthetic fertilisers, pesticides and the use of sulphur for preservation are taboo in organic cultivation.

Another quality feature is the fine sugaring that sometimes forms on the surface of the fruit. The figs continue to dry over time and fruit sugar appears on the outer surface. This natural process can result in a fine, white coating on the figs.

Dried organic figs - a sweet ingredient for many recipes

How does the golden fig differ from other varieties?

The golden fig has a pleasantly creamy flesh and literally melts in the mouth. The flavour of the golden fig is seductively sweet with a hint of honey. The skin of this variety is pleasantly soft and thin, making the golden fig the ideal snack for pure enjoyment. In addition This variety is also self-pollinating, which means that it is not dependent on fig wasps, for example.

How exactly are the figs packaged?

Our golden figs are hand-packed as loose fruit in garden-compostable bags. You are probably familiar with figs that have been compressed and pressed into shape for packaging - for example so-called "layered figs" or "pulled figs". With our figs, you receive the whole fruit in its original form after drying.

My golden figs have got a white coating. Are they spoilt?

As with other dried fruits - such as dates - figs dry out over time. Sugar can continue to crystallise during this drying process. This fine to grainy coating is by no means a sign of spoilt fruit.

Where and how are golden figs grown and processed?

The golden figs from Keimling Naturkost's golden figs come from south-west Spain, where they enjoy an extra portion of sunshine in organically managed plantations. In order to preserve the consistency of the fruit and the tenderness of the skin, the golden figs are gently dried to raw food quality - this naturally also preserves the maximum amount of vital substances and enzymes they contain. No additives or chemicals are used during processing. You receive natural fruit of the highest quality and without additives.

Why is the growing region so important for the quality of figs?

The quality and ultimately the flavour of our figs depend to a large extent on the climatic conditions. For example, figs are thicker-skinned in humid and colder summers and in particularly warm and dry regions the fruits are smaller - but characterised by more sweetness. In the classic growing regions for certain varieties, the quality is of course also subject to fluctuations in the weather, but in general the conditions there are relatively constant and optimal for certain varieties.
