In traditional Chinese medicine, the fruit also known as the breast berry or jujube date is highly valued, especially for colds. And rightly so, as its vitamin C content in particular is very high. Just two dates (approx. 18 g) cover over 25% of your daily requirement.

Chinese dates: Superfood with many important vital substances
Chinese dates contain even more: they provide copper, potassium and vitamin K. The nutrients favour each other, as copper contributes to normal iron transport in the body and vitamin C increases iron absorption. It is therefore best to combine the date fruit with iron-rich nuts such as almonds or hazelnuts
Jujube fruit: soft and caramelised
Chinese dates differ significantly from classic dates in terms of consistency. The dried fruit is fluffy and somewhat reminiscent of marshmallows. In terms of flavour, they resemble dried apples with a hint of caramel.

Getrocknete Jujube-Datteln schmecken süß und karamellig, weil der Zucker sich in den Früchten konzentriert. Die Konsistenz ist jetzt weich und erinnert leicht an Marshmallows.

- Die Pflanze gilt als relativ frostverträglich: Minustemperaturen werden häufig gut überstanden.
- Gerade junge Pflanzen sind empfindlicher: Winterschutz (Mulch, Vlies, etc.) ist ratsam.
- Ein sonniger, geschützter Standort ist empfehlenswert.
- In wärmeren Regionen mit milden Wintern ist es grundsätzlich möglich, Jujube im Garten auszupflanzen. In Topf- oder Kübelkultur ist sie dagegen häufig besser aufgehoben – bei Bedarf kannst Du den Behälter für den Winter in ein frostgeschütztes Gewächshaus oder einen Keller bringen.

Jujuben
Im Vergleich zu Jujuben auch der TCM-Apotheke sind diese größer und leckerer. Allerdings sind etliche der Früchte "bewohnt" und ich finde es schade, dass ich sie nicht einfach verwenden kann, sondern jede einzelne Frucht erst einmal überprüfen - und leider auch häufig entsorgen - muss.

Schädlingsbefall in den Datteln - unappetitlich
Ich habe die Datteln bereits zwei Mal bestellt, weil ich sie für diverse TCM Gerichte brauche und sie auch sonst ganz lecker finde. Leider befinden sich in ca. jeder 3. Dattel Ausscheidungen von kleinen Schädlingen wie Larven/Raupen. Vergleichbar mit Pflaumen die mit Maden befallen sind und innen drin kleine dunkle Körnchen wie Grieß drin haben. Das ist ziemlich eklig und ärgerlich, da so jede Dattel vor dem Verzehr erstmal genau unter die Lupe genommen werden muss. Der Preis ist zudem sehr hoch, sodass ich keine neue Charge bestellen werde. Leider hat sich der Kundenservice auch nicht zurück gemeldet.
