Small but mighty! Pistachios are versatile, delicious and so healthy!
Discover the healthy properties of pistachios! Perfect for raw food, as a topping or in pesto - the green superfruit is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, minerals and vitamins.
As a topping for muesli, processed into ice cream or for a flavour kick in pesto - pistachios are a popular ingredient for sweet and savoury dishes and are particularly ideal for raw food cooking. Its fresh green colour provides a visual highlight, while the intense nutty flavour gives it that certain something extra. However, the pistachio is particularly valuable due to the vital nutrients contained in the small fruit.
It looks like a nut, tastes like a nut and is as healthy as a nut. However, the pistachio is actually a drupe whose seeds are edible and enclosed in a shell that is not suitable for consumption. When the pistachio kernels are ripe, the shell opens and the fruit looks like it is smiling. This is why the pistachio is nicknamed the "smiling nut". And laughter is known to be healthy, just like the small green fruit, which contains numerous unsaturated fatty acids, important minerals and vitamins as well as satiating proteins. A mixture that makes pistachios a real superfood.
Pistachio kernels: a source of healthy fats
Pistachios consist of more than 50 per cent fat. But that's no reason to avoid them. On the contrary: fats are one of the basic nutrients and are essential for our health. Unsaturated fatty acids are particularly valuable. In pistachios, unsaturated fatty acids are the main component, making the fruit a healthy food.
For your health: small kernel is an important source of minerals
But that's not all: 100 grams of pistachios contain around 1,020 milligrams of potassium. The body needs this vital electrolyte to regulate blood pressure. Adults need around 4,000 milligrams of potassium per day. These are estimated values from the German Nutrition Society. Pistachios also contain plenty of magnesium: Around 160 milligrams of the mineral are found in 100 grams of pistachios. An adequate supply of magnesium is important for energy metabolism and the functioning of our muscles and nerves, for example. For adults (aged 19 and over), the appropriate magnesium intake is 300 milligrams per day for women and 350 milligrams per day for men. Pistachios also contain vitamins, including vitamin E, vitamin C and vitamin B6, which is required for the formation of red blood pigment. And with 20 grams of protein (per 100 grams), the green superfruit provides us with plenty of energy and keeps us full for a long time. This makes it an ideal snack between meals.
Pure indulgence: pistachios as a healthy ingredient for raw foodists
Pistachios are a versatile food, especially in the raw food kitchen. Enjoy them as a topping on your muesli, processed into a healthy green smoothie, in gnocchi dough or as a pesto ingredient. The green seeds can also be used to enhance baked goods, making them an absolute highlight not only in terms of flavour but also visually. To ensure that eating pistachios is an all-round healthy pleasure, it is advisable to buy organic quality. In the Keimling-range you will find a carefully selected selection of organic pistachios that come from a small co-operative in Spain and have Spanish organic farming certification (CAAE). The La Mancha growing region is characterised by optimal climatic conditions, which ensure a particularly high harvest quality. Pure, unroasted and unsalted, the organic pistachios develop their unique flavour - for a healthy and raw food experience.
