Autumn is here! The fresh air and colourful leaves are calling us outside. Seasonal spices make us want to enjoy an aromatic meal and cosy get-togethers. It's time to simply take a deep breath, slow down and reflect on the time ahead. With autumn, there are so many wonderful, seasonal and healthy foods to tantalise our taste buds. You can see bright orange pumpkins everywhere, giving us a dose of sunshine with their colour. Numerous mushrooms with their hearty flavour whet the appetite for crispy snacks, stews and stir-fries. Chestnuts, which hide a sweet and creamy flesh behind their hard shell, are the absolute culinary heralds of autumn. But beetroot, lamb's lettuce, carrots, apples and cabbage are also very popular.
An extra portion of vitamins in no time at all
Many typical autumn dishes are known as hearty meals that you enjoy for lunch or dinner with family and friends. But there are also exciting snacks that can be conjured up wonderfully with seasonal foods in the autumn months. They are easy to take with you - for a trip into the countryside, to work or as a refreshment when doing sport. They are healthy, provide the body with valuable nutrients and give you an extra portion of energy. If you choose snacks made from wholesome foods, you will stay full and satisfied for a long time.
The markets are currently full of seasonal fruit and vegetables. In autumn, there is a huge harvest and nature presents us with a large selection of foods that can be stored. Of course, it is very sustainable to shop seasonally and regionally. In this way, you support local retailers and get fresh produce that has not travelled long distances. We all know that the fresher the food is, the more vitamins and minerals it contains.
So let's start the autumn with healthy snacks for on the go that contain lots of autumnal ingredients and taste delicious. The following two recipes are easy to take with you in a lunch box or screw-top jar, are quick to prepare and still taste fresh and delicious many hours later. Fine spices and herbs tickle our taste buds and are also extremely healthy.
Pumpkin and almond crackers
- 1350 g pumpkin, raw, finely grated
- 100 g almonds (grind into flour)
- 2 tbsp psyllium husks + 5 tbsp water
- 30 g linseed, soaked overnight
- 30 g pumpkin seeds, soaked overnight
- ½ to 1 tsp sea salt
- 1 tsp Italian herbs
- Some turmeric powder to taste
- sea salt
Soak the linseed and pumpkin seeds in water overnight. The next day, pour off the excess water. Soak the psyllium husks in a separate container of water for approx. 15 minutes. Finely grate the pumpkin on a grater or using a food processor and grind the almonds into flour (coffee grinder or high-performance blender). Now mix all the ingredients together in a bowl until they are well combined. Leave the dough to rest for approx. 10 minutes. Now the dough can be spread as thinly as possible on a drying film. If the dough sticks a little when you roll it out, you can moisten the surface with a little water. Leave the rolled out dough to dry in the dehydrator at 42 degrees for approx. 8-10 hours until it has the desired consistency. The crackers will stay nice and crispy in an airtight container. Enjoy your meal!

Chestnut chocolate balls with cinnamon
- 100 g chestnuts (without skin), cooked
- 100 g dried dates, pitted
- 2 tsp cocoa powder
- 30 g pecan nuts
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp brown almond paste
- Cashew nuts, finely grated
Slightly cut the chestnuts with a knife and boil in water for approx. 15-20 minutes until the flesh is soft. Alternatively, pre-cooked chestnuts can also be used. Drain the water and leave the chestnuts to cool. Chop and mix these ingredients in a food processor: Chestnuts, dates, cocoa, pecans, cinnamon and almond paste. The ingredients must be chopped until they are fine enough and have a sticky consistency. Balls can now be formed. For visual highlights, the balls can also be rolled in the cashew snow (finely grate a few cashews). Store in a cool place, the balls will only keep for a few days. Enjoy your meal!
