Blog post "Sustainable small businesses"
Food start-ups and owner-managed companies from the natural food sector show how sustainability is put into practice
Companies from the Keimling universe are pioneering sustainable nutrition and corporate management.
Small, creative, sustainable
Those who consciously eat organic food not only want to do something good for themselves, but also for our planet. At Keimling Naturkost, we are fully committed to naturalness and a sense of responsibility, which is why we take a very close look at our suppliers. In terms of product quality as well as labour and environmental conditions from production to transport.
Entrepreneurial spirit with a mission
As an entrepreneur, it's good to have a clear goal in mind: Our supplier AHO.BIO, for example, has the ambitious claim of being the "most sustainable food start-up in Germany". When developing and producing the sprouted "soul food from sprouts", AHO.BIO emphasises, among other things, the preservation of old grain varieties and uses compostable packaging. The energy required also comes from 100% renewable sources. This makes the likeable company from Bad Münderer a perfect match for Keimling.
Natural raw materials from ecologically fair agriculture
Ecological and fair organic raw food quality literally starts at the root: at Keimling we make sure that our dried fruit, nuts & co. are produced under controlled and fair conditions. This is the case with our cashew nuts: they are harvested in Indonesia under certified "Fair for life" working conditions with appropriate payment and social security benefits. We regularly check compliance with these standards ourselves on site.
We also expect proof of consistent sustainability from third-party products in our shop. Take Dr. Goerg, for example: the coconut plantations for Dr. Goerg products have been cultivated with love and care by family businesses for generations. Respect, hygienic working conditions and social security are just as important to Dr. Goerg as they are to us.
Local and sustainable transport and packaging
Our long-life food often comes to us in Buxtehude in large containers from all over the world. We take care of packing them into handy portions in our own packing centre. We are supported in this by the local DRK sheltered workshops. We are not yet able to completely dispense with plastic packaging, but we are gradually switching to more sustainable options. For example, we will soon also be using garden-compostable fresh food packaging. Are you already familiar with our bulk packs (500 g, 2.5 kg, 5 kg)? This saves you packaging material and money!
If the quality is right, we are happy to include products in our range that are sourced locally: InnoNature produces its vegan and cruelty-free food supplements in Germany and is certified as a climate-neutral company. Manufactured in Europe, Sana by Omega Juicer has no need to hide behind the market leaders from Asia. And with the aqua living water purifiers and Mockmills grain mills, we have world-class "made in Germany" products in our range.
Repairing instead of throwing away
Have you broken or lost something in your blenders, juicers or dehydrators? We offer spare parts for many appliances, most of which you can easily replace yourself. Simply give us a call or send us a message.
Sustainable from printer paper to hand cleaner
We think so: If you are committed to sustainability, you should set a good example every day. That's why all Keimling offices are equipped with wooden furniture, plant-based carpets and environmentally friendly printers. Our parcels contain no plastic filling material and are shipped climate-neutrally with DHL GoGreen. We use green electricity, print catalogues on recycled paper and more. We even wash our dishes in the office organically. We have been certified as a climate-neutral company since 2021.
You can do good with your purchase
The great thing is that there are endless ways to make healthy raw food even more environmentally friendly. We at Keimling Naturkost work on this every day and regularly launch campaigns that you can support with your purchase. For example, if you round up your invoice amount in favour of environmental and social projects. In the shop, we also regularly offer the opportunity to save products with a short best-before date from the rubbish bin. So that you can always shop with a clear conscience at Keimling Naturkost with a clear conscience.
